Sketcher and Scribbler, Darlene Schacht

I'm a writer, and I'm a reader. In fact I'm such a big reader that my husband says books will eventually rot my brain. I have more self-help books than a chain smoker has matches, and still I'm in dire need of help.

There was a time in my life when all I read was the Bible--make that a "King James Bible." I read it through at least six times, who knows, maybe eight, and I'm still hungry to know more of God's Word.

When you're that much of a King James reader, you start saying things to your children like, "Beloved, let us love one another!" or when they ask if they may have a cookie before dinner you reply, "Thou shalt not."

My dad's a big reader too. He reads the Bible front to back, and then he starts at revelation and reads his way to the front once again. Reading and humor--we have that in common.

I'm also a graphic designer of sorts. In grade seven my artwork won for yearbook cover design, so I guess one could say "I'm an award winning designer." Then again, one could also say I look like Angelina Jolie, but unfortunately saying it doesn't make it true. *sigh*

I started seriously writing about 10 years ago. With pen and notebook (we're not talking laptop here) I sat down to write a study on the book of Matthew. My writing was dry, uninteresting yet informative.

So with second notebook in hand I rhymed the entire book of Esther. It would have been a great kid's book if kids actually had an attention span of 6 hours. I have yet to find one.

About 7 years ago, I discovered blogging. My first post was a humorous piece called "Woman on the Edge." That article got nationwide attention (about six people in all), but it was enough encouragement to inspire me to write, and to find my own niche.

About three years into my blogging journey, I self published my stories in a book called, "The Mom Complex." The book is full of humorous devotions on being a wife, a woman and a mother of four.

Soon after publishing The Mom Complex, I decided to combine my design and writing skills to create an online magazine now known as Christian Women Online. I also created a sister site, which is now Internet Cafe Devotions.

While writing at CWO, I had the opportunity of interviewing celebrities like Lisa Whelchel, Author, Liz Curtis Higgs, Proverbs 31 Woman Lisa Terkeurst, American Idol Mandisa, Supermodel Kathy Ireland, and Actress Candace Cameron Bure.

Candace Cameron Bure joined CWO as a regular contributor, and after writing together for a couple of years we decided to put our heads together and write a book that would motivate women to stronger physical and spiritual fitness.

"Reshaping It All: Motivation for Spiritual and Physical Fitness" is available for pre-order at Amazon.com.

So that's where I'm at in my writing journey--believing, conceiving, and achieving by His grace.
